Even though the Rams didn't have Jared Goff on Sunday, they were able to stun the Cardinals thanks to an impressive performance from backup quarterback John Wolford. When the Cards had won, the Rams could have made the playoffs, but they would have become the seven-seed. Rather, the Rams are now locked to the six-spot, which means when the playoffs begin next week they will be facing the Seahawks for the next time this year.
The Bears didn't beat the Packers on Sunday, but at the end that didn't matter, since they were able to backdoor their way into the postseason. Although the teams tied for the final playoff spot, the Bears get the nod because of the fact that they won the best winning percentage in common games tiebreaker.
The Bills are the group nobody, such as the Chiefs needs to see in the playoffs, also Week 17 insider notes
Each year about this time we talk about the team you do not wish to confront the playoffs. You never include the No. 1 seed because, well, of course. And typically you select the sixth or fifth seed since they obtained their wild-card place by playing well in December. The team you don't want to play January is the Buffalo Bills.
With all due respect to the Packers, the AFC's No. 2 overall seed might just be the second-best group from the NFL. The Bills crushed the Dolphins 56-26 at a match Miami needed due to their playoff hopes. And we didn't see a 30-point triumph coming, but it's based on what the Bills were performing to teams lately.
Buffalo has experienced a top-five scoring defense since Week 12. Otherwise to the Hail Murray they'd have finished on a 10-game win streak dating back to before Halloween.
And then there's Josh Allen. The third-year franchise quarterback has, in successive weeks, set the Bills single-season documents for passing touchdowns and passing yards.
What I love about the Bills is that they aren't even letting teams hang around. Since that Week 10 loss to the Cardinals, not one team has finished within a possession of the Bills.
I return to that Week 6 loss to the Chiefs. Head coach Sean McDermott picked his poison and allow the Chiefs' run game defeat them up so that Patrick Mahomes would not. But with approximately 5 minutes remaining in the match and down 23-17, the Bills forced a Clyde Edwards-Helaire fumble that could have contributed the Bills the ball at the Kansas City 31.
